Some states have partnered with the federal government to provide various forms of stimulus to their citizens through Economic Impact Payments. Most stimulus allocations were phased out three years after the CARES Act was enacted. However, some states continue to provide aid due to ongoing economic instability and other fiscal constraints.

This list outlines who is expected to receive a stimulus check in April 2024. These checks may be separate from IRS-approved checks because different states have their own financial and tax refund systems.

Stimulus checks, often called “economic impact payments,” are payments the government sends to citizens to stimulate the economy. This usually occurs during a recession or crisis to encourage people to spend more and thus stimulate economic activity.

Alabama

The one-time rebate is $150 for single taxpayers and $300 for married couples. Eligibility requires filing a 2021 tax return by October 17, 2022. The rebate, expected to benefit about 1.9 million Alabamians, is supported by a $2.8 billion surplus in state funds for the state’s Education Trust Fund and costs the state about $383 million.

Arizona

Arizona taxpayers with dependents are scheduled to receive their refunds by April 15.

The discount is $250 per dependent under 17, with a maximum limit of $750 for three dependents. Taxpayers with dependents age 17 or older will receive $100 per dependent. The rebates, which the Arizona Freedom Caucus advocated for in previous budget discussions, were intended to use some of the federal surplus funds to lessen the impact of inflation on residents.

Approximately 750,000 taxpayers who file 2021 tax returns and claim certain credits will benefit from these reliefs. Payment will be made via direct deposit or check.

Georgia

Taxpayers who have not yet filed a 2021 or 2022 state income tax return are encouraged to do so in order to qualify for a possible one-time tax credit. Rebates depend on income and tax paid, with single taxpayers paying up to $250, heads of household paying up to $375, and married couples paying up to $500 jointly.

Illinois

Residents may receive checks for unclaimed property worth up to $5,000. More than 66,000 people are eligible for these funds, totaling approximately $47 million. To file a claim, residents should look for a letter from the Illinois Treasurer’s Office and may want to verify their identity before receiving a paper check.

Minnesota

Residents may have already received their one-time tax rebates, which began being distributed in mid-August. Discounts up to $1,300. Exact amounts and eligibility criteria are listed in the official guide.

Montana

Residents will soon be able to receive refunds for their 2021 and 2022 income and property taxes if they file their tax returns by October 1, 2023. Rebate includes up to $675 in property taxes and/or $2,500 in income tax rebate for a co-applicant ($1,250, whichever is less). for other classifications) or its state tax liability.

New Mexico

Economic relief payments began on July 26, 2023, with 26,085 qualified applicants receiving $500 for individuals and $1,000 for couples and families.

Pennsylvania

The deadline to apply for the property tax/rent rebate program is May 1, 2024. Eligibility criteria and possible rebate amounts are listed on the official website.

Virginia

Virginia is offering a $200 rebate to individuals based on whether they were taxable in 2022, meaning the state pays the net amount after taking into account tax credits, deductions and deductions. A one-time discount of $400 is available for filing joint returns.
Taxpayers who filed their returns before July 1, 2024, can expect to receive their refunds by December 2024. The deadline to apply for your 2022 tax refund is July 2024.

Washington

Qualifying workers can receive up to $1,200 in tax credits through the Washington Working Families Tax Credit Rebate. Applications must be submitted by December 31, 2024.

Different income limits apply depending on the tax return situation (e.g. single, jointly married, head of household).

Dependents:

Tax filing:

In some cases, individuals must file a current tax return to receive a stimulus payment.
Individuals who do not submit information may be required to submit information to the IRS through the non-filing portal or other means.

Social security number:

Generally, beneficiaries and their dependents must have valid Social Security numbers.

Citizenship status:

Generally, U.S. citizens and foreign residents living in the United States are eligible.
Nonresident aliens, estates, and trusts generally are not eligible.

Other criteria:
